The Lonely Lecturer
When you think
you are the show,
it's the audience you are.
Could I stand in front of you
like a troubadour, with no right to it,
with vanity on my shoulder?
You may hear me in passing
or generously if nothing else to do.
I am a will-be man
who never went far beyond the first boast.
Vanity requires a future
which is quickly turning to ash.
