The Nature of the World

She heard the grown man
say, "mommy mommy"
in her dream when he died.

That's what he said
when he was
taken by his dad.

as if she sees him
in her eyes.

Who owns
the people in your dreams,
who don't own themselves?

These days
I cling to my memory of today

and to the sights in front of my eyes.
I hold the cause and effect together

with a tight grip, frightened that

Main Street Nursery

They quiver
with the motion of her hand
and she calls them pretty.
No one comes
here without joy.
Fiber filagree adds color
miracles. Needy, pretty,
drizzled. Shivering.
as she moves them.

The Ice Delivery Man

I am tongue tied
by the ice man,
idea man.

Tongue tied
while I doubt and he
wins bets,
knows everything.

Makes up theories that
become facts.
It takes no work
to gain an education,

He invents
an education and
knows how
his bare ideas will

make him rich.
I shut up.
He discourses
when the insiders hear him.
