Latest in Solar Power

They will make
glass cells
filled with small
bugs that
believe in tiny universes.
They will
harvest the hydrocarbon
gasses bugs
spawn from the sunlight
to heat their coffee cups.

The Evolution of the Casino

We sit and take our chances,
watching the invisible Master
do the mysterious work.
We supplicate noisily with our dollars
pasted on the prayer wheel.
We know how
once this was a sin,
making material prayers
to alter the world against
the master's own instruction.
We once did it in a hall of danger,
unprotected; but we are now free.
The Master is swept away.
What was once sin
is now sport.

Don has previously published a dozen volumes of poetry, his first in 1996, not counting the experiments with self publishing under the name "Enthalpy Press." He spent a lot of his young adult life hawking books and learning the meaning of vanity. His poetry has appeared in numerous periodicals and has been translated into Chinese for distribution abroad. Don is a habitue of the poetry forum network and has received first prize in the Interboard competition. He calls himself a phenomenological poet, devoted to exact description of experience. His poems reflect the transitions in his life. He currently lives in New York after spending half his adult life in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada.

The Complete Man

He looks for
the part that
breaks his breath.

When he can't
find it life feels
uncomfortably smooth.

He occupies
his early mornings
in tiny fabrications.

Heart full of fear,
he would say, what would
life be without woe?

The Consulting Firm

We all get together every week:
the guy who didn't
want to go to school
until he was overtaken
by everyone with inferior smarts,
the guy who studied wrong stuff
abandoned in an empty back lot,
the guy who invented something
whose use nobody ever discovered,
the guy who always
thought outside the box,
the guy who expected
other guys to sell what he had,
the guy who invested
in something that passed.
We meet joyfully
make big plans,
but can't find the one
who gets the clients.

Poetry Question

Why do I have to
wake to a misty morning,
hard thoughts
beaten by memory,
small devils
tumbling like children
over my eyes.

The Evolution of Tiffany Lamps*

Tiffany lamps
were invented by
girls in 1888,
to soften the walls
of quiet parlors
where men were
hushed and sat
politely with hands
between their knees.

The grace was
stolen in 1992 when
the symbols of New York
Jets replaced the flowers
and Tiffany
lighted laughter
on the bars
where trumpets blare.

*I recently started a home job of ghost writing little articles
for company blogs and promotions.
I made a poem from one of the essays about Tiffany sports lamps.
