Sociometry

Here's how
love gets circulated.
There are big chunks
of love
at the corners
and the windows
of their lives,
and nodules of love
spread where the
strings of their lives
turn corners.
There are thin
nets of love,
and whisps of love,
for those less deserving.
You can't breathe
in the vacuums of love.
So there are tiny rescue
filaments  of love, but you have to find them.

Existential

I fear
and the wind
comes fresh at my face
carrying the salt
from the beaches of Africa.
This is the true
earth, growling at me
the probability of death.
I am not numb
when I fear
as I am when I celebrate.

Safety Net

My cat, Francois
 is frightened too,
but she relies on me
so far, to fill
the plastic food dish
and bring her water
twice a day.
You can tell because she
rubs my leg in passing.
 I look at the world
I can barely hold onto
with the uncertainty of breath,
plunging into bed at eleven,
into the safety of dreams.

What You'd Think

There would be
a history
for the old men,
but, the history stops
while the skin
is still tight
and the movies
can still be made.
