Size Time and Hope: Video

Monday, December 15, 2014

Here we sit
happily on our
pedestal of scale,
halfway between large
and small.
As we rest
under the soles of stars
our teeth crush mountains.
We impale planets
under our brooms.
Some float
among the galaxies.
Some spend lifetimes
amid ridges
on grains of sand.

Art Suicide

Dorothea, my art dream,
as old as me,
has killed herself.
I make my paintings
small, my walls already
covered with my secrets.
it's the big
brash art that sells,
it's the art of
consistent hope.

Darwin's Relative

The hill of life
may start out easy
but I keep my eyes
on the summit in the clouds.
When the rocks start
everyone tells me
persistence is the best selector.
I grit my teeth.
The summit is not green.
The cliffs around it
call me to accident,
and my jaw now hurts.
Here in the depths
of the valley, I nurse my bruises.
One of the eliminated,looking up,
I laugh the laugh of the embarrassed.

New Kindle Book
When I Won the Voice of Democracy Contest [Kindle Edition]
by Don Schaeffer

Thursday, December 04, 2014

 I don't mean
 to be selfish about time
 when I hold
some of it as my own.
 You can want
me to give it all away.
 I did love.
I did my duty of love.
