Give Peace a Chance: the History of the Orchestra

First, there were chants
that drew us into rhythm and words
that we can't critique.We went
away from the open eyes
into the tinkles behind vision.
Then they really learned
how to do it. They made shapes
that hung in time. Then they made
small highlights and beads constructed
out of modes of seeing that go
beyond seeing. They made invisible
dances that gestured
in groups and alone,
invisible pantomime,
infantile,
deeply possessed
speech.
