The Comings and Goings

Birth

They look down at him
with an unworldly mixture
of curiosity and caring.
He exudes something
that appeals to them
but in that first moment
they are alien facing alien.

Mother supplies
the vehicle for his journey.
The strangers clean him with towels.

Death

The biggest logical
difference between birth
and death is that
we see the entrance to the Earth
but we can't see the exit.
